as far as i could recall, my family doesn't really celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. It was just another normal dinner at home and maybe during that period, we would have moon cakes after dinner. but back then; choice were limited, so was our family finances so mom would usually buy these very traditional type of mooncakes.
and that was about it to commemorate the date, not even a paper lantern.
and it seems that G's childhood was pretty similar, except that they had lots of mooncakes since both his parents worked in the F&B industry. As for lanterns, i didn't ask. but with 3 boys + candles(fire) = accidents are PRONE to happen, rite?
so for my kids; they too do not really know much about this special day. chloe's 1st encounter was when she turned 10 months old. as for gaby - i guess we really didn't bother that much back then (as there were no photos of the kids with lanters OR mooncakes, and i wonder why...)
so this year - i originally wanted to do something special for them. but it turned out to be a post-rainy night; wet floor and very cool weather - hence the kids had to stay in-doors. i lit a paper lantern (very tradition type) with candle and gaby tried to grab the lantern and almost got the whole thing burnt! so that was it - 5 minutes of lantern 'fun' and *poof*, no more fun.
as for chloe; she kinda remembered her old toy lantern her 爷爷 got her. played with it a little while (i didn't put any batteries coz i can't stand the NOISE) and then she wanted to read her story books and left the toy lantern on the floor.

so by 9PM, both kids are asleep (G dozed off too!) and only left dear old me and a plate of moon cakes and slices of polemo.

4 different flavours of snowskin and the traditional (double york, my fav!) moon cakes... yumm!
oh well, maybe next year the kids will start to enjoy it a little bit more.
